Alebrije is the name given to the Mexican carved wood or papier-mâché sculptures of animals. These are all hand carved by men and hand decorated by women usually within the same family. The wooden alebrijes are produced in Oaxaca, South West of Mexico, the papier-mâché ones are produced in Mexico City and around.
Made in copal wood. Each piece is individually carved, hence unique. There is no machine involved in this work.
