Simplicity and elegance are the hallmarks of his charcoal drawings, adorned with a single line, in constant movement, which is masterfully transformed to poetry as it fills a limitless volume of space which incites the viewer into inner inquiry.
The draughtsmanship’s austerity and economy of means recall, in their sobriety, Zen discipline. The monochrome approach enhances a purity of line which is, at the same time, minimalist and painterly, demanding reflexion.
Rubén turns the human body into a cathedral. Above all, it is the female body which reveals his fine powers of observation, suggesting speculations on the sweet twistings of desire, of possession, of the thirst for erotic dependence, the vulnerability of surrender.
